About me
Hi, I'm Cath, founder of Positively Rewarding Dog Training.
My dream was always to work with animals and starting with horse training, riding instruction and stable management, I moved to veterinary nursing where, witnessing the abundant love and joy between people and dogs reuniting after a stay in hospital, I realised I was definitely missing out and so my love of all things canine was born! Back to school I went, to study Dog Behaviour & Training with the Delta Institute; the leading providers of education in Australia for modern, force-free dog trainers.
I now have over 25 years experience working with animals both large and small (cats, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, horses, cows and of course dogs!) I have a range of qualifications including Companion Animal Services in Dog Behaviour and Training with the Delta Institute and am a Delta Accredited Canine Good Citizen Instructor. I'm a certified Family Dog Mediator, having completed renowned Applied Ethologist and Behaviour Consultant, Kim Brophey's L.E.G.S - Applied Ethology - Family Dog Mediation Professional Course. In my past life I was also an accredited Veterinary Nurse and have further qualifications in Horse Management, from the Sydney Institute of Technology Ultimo and The British Horse Society.
As an individual, I believe in the humane treatment of animals at all times. My work in a variety of industries, led me here, to a place where I know that I am helping dogs and their humans have a better life together by creating a relationship built on trust, kindness and mutual understanding. I practice modern, ethical dog training. Using positive reinforcement training methods, your puppy or dog will always be treated with kindness to achieve great results.
In my home in Sydney's Inner West, I currently share my life with a mixed terrier, Mini, a one-eyed cat, Weasel, two human teenagers and a long-suffering husband.
Along with my work at Positively Rewarding, I have also worked with the dog behaviour team at a large local animal shelter and am a member of a number of industry associations including the Delta Institute, the APDT (Australian Association of Pet Dog Trainers) and the PPGA (Pet Professional Guild Australia)
As dog behaviour is an ever-evolving science, I continue to build on my education with further study by taking professional courses and regularly attending dog behaviour conferences, seminars and webinars. Ensuring my knowledge is up-to-date, enables me to provide you with the latest knowledge in behaviour and training.
